Step it Up

Community building is not a passive activity. It takes action. Lots of it.

What are your online community goals?
More members
More conversations
More contributions
More traffic
More subscribers
More donations
How are you going to reach them?
One fool proof way is to take more action.
No matter what the goal, more action will get you there in time. Even if you temporarily fail or get sidetracked, taking large amounts of action on a regular basis is worth the energy.
Less is not more
A friend of mine has a rather ambitious goal. He wants to change the face of media by beating the big television networks when it comes to social entertainment.
How is he going to do it?
One step at a time.
Actually more like one video at a time. Rain or shine, no matter how busy he is, he goes out and creates a new video every week. It doesn’t matter if he’s having an off day or that demand hasn’t caught up yet, he stays busy creating. He’s got goals and long term strategy, but he never wastes time thinking without ever getting around to putting those thoughts in motion.
It takes a lot to build something worthwhile. It’s my guess that most people simply underestimate the amount of action it actually takes to make significant progress. I can’t tell you the exact steps to take, because everyone’s community is different. The fact is I’m sure you know exactly what you need to do.
Is it sending more emails? Is it the act of spending more time being a part of the community? Is it creating more content? You already know the answer. Stop looking for a secret or a shortcut. Put more sweat equity into what you’re doing.
