Get in the Shed

What have you been putting off that needs to get done?
Dizzy Gillespie, one of the greatest trumpet players, band leaders, and jazz legends of all time was once asked how he achieved his level of mastery at his craft. Dizzy responded by saying that he wasn’t the best player, he just practiced more than the next guy.
An old teacher of mine use to refer to the act of practice as “getting in the shed”. He’d always tell his students to go home and get in the shed. Practice for hours nonstop. Practice until you can’t get it wrong.
I like the analogy. Getting in the shed might be building a website, taking the time to send more emails, or putting in the effort to write more (or stronger) blog posts. Everyone has something they need to do that they’ve been putting off.
When’s the last time you got in the shed?
Without being distracted by a television set, without checking Facebook multiple times per hour, without taking unnecessary breaks.
Sometimes it’s all about putting in the hours.
Get in the shed.
Produce more.
